(20/20) Two girls + Skateboard + String =

These girls did this all afternoon....taking turns pulling each other up and down the street....letting go with screams, squeals and giggles...

They did take an occasional break to look for roly-poly's...then it was right back to work!!

And finally...they rode off into the sunset...the perfect ending to a perfect day!!

(19/20) Feeding the ducks...

On Sunday, after church and before we headed to the ranch for Doug's birthday, Avery wanted to stop at the pond near our house and feed the ducks. She had heard a rumor that there were baby ducks...and would not rest until she had checked it out for herself.

When the ducks saw us, they came running from all directions...they often sleep in the bushes near the road so they darted across the street and headed our way. Some were near the fountain...they swam in for a treat.

Avery was a little nervous since they came so fast and so close but then....the baby ducks were spotted!!

A quick shot of the clubhouse across the street...it's still funny to me to see Palm trees in North Texas!!

(18/20) Birthday Cake....Spongebob Style!!

For Doug's birthday, we baked him a super delicious chocolate cake and let Avery decorate it. She worked hard and did it all herself...with only a few "taste tests" along the way.
She chose Spongebob (the yellow squares) and Patrick (the pink starfish shapes) sprinkles to decorate of course...perfect for celebrating your 40th birthday. Sadly, she got lots of icing along the edge of the plate...I couldn't present it to Doug that way so I had to scrape it off...and eat if course. I'm a waste not-want not kind of a gal.

A hug for Weston for the gift he chose...a new pack of cards so they can play poker!!!!

He also got lots of new clothes...some for work and some for working out. The candles were blown out and, after a wonderful dinner from La Hacienda Ranch, we all sat down to enjoy a piece of Spongebob birthday cake!!

(17/20) Birthday Parties....

Today Avery went to a birthday party. It was from 6:30-9:00. They played outside on a small motorcycle which tore her toenail. The only other guest was the mean neighbor who didn't listen. The invitation said games, food and fun...since food was mentioned, I didn't feed her dinner. When I asked her what they ate, she said a cold hotdog??? Had it cooled off after being cooked...no, cold from the fridge. Did she have a bun...no. Was there cake and ice cream...no, but she had a cupcake. My sunshine girl...said the hotdog tasted good (shudder) and she had fun!! Party on sister!!

(15/20) Happy Birthday Honey!!!

Today is Doug's 40th birthday (finally, we're both in our forties) I love you very much...hope this day is as wonderful as you are. We'll be celebrating all week-end with dinner with my family on Saturday and a day at the ranch with family and friends on Sunday.
Today is also my little brother Paul's birthday (Happy Birthday little brother) and my dad's. Yes, all three were born on April 23rd. So, while I'm super excited to celebrate with Doug and Paul, I'm also really missing my dad. I would have loved for him to see our new house, see Weston in his karate uniform and watch Avery at her first horse show. At times, it just seems like he's missed so much. Although I know he keeps a close eye on us from his perch high in heaven, I would have liked to have him down here for awhile longer. So, Happy Birthday Dad...I love you and miss you more than ever.

(14/20) Kay-rah-tae (according to Spongebob)

Weston has started taking Karate...we have looked for quite awhile for the best place for him, someplace that not only taught the proper forms, etc...but also focused on teaching children respect, focus, setting and reaching a goal, etc. Now that we've found the perfect place, Weston is off and running. He's already earned two stripes on his white belt and will soon test for his third. He loves to practice and, since Doug took karate when he was younger, they often practice together (and on each other).
Despite all the hi-yahhing and such, all was calm in the Via household until she showed up....

....the dreaded, red-robed Zebra Girl (also known as Horse Girl)
~looking both fierce and cute at the same time~

Since then the battle has raged on....who will emerge victorious???? Only time (and mom and dad's mood, whether anything gets broken or not and how many fits get thrown) will tell!!
**Sorry for the blechy photos...I did get a new flash but seriously need some work on my low-light shots :( **

(13/20) Rocket Day....

On Saturday before Easter, Weston and his Scout Troop joined with a group of local "rocket-teers" to shoot off the rockets the boys had made. Doug went with Weston and took all these fabulous pictures, while Avery, K and I headed over to a local ranch for a hayride through time to hear the Easter story. It was, as it always is, beautiful and horrible, sad and uplifting, devastating...heart-wrenching, amazing and awe-inspiring. We rode on a hay trailer to a place in the field where 3 crosses were built while a lovely lady, dressed as Mary, shared the story of the crucifixion....we continued the ride to the tomb, where she shared the joy and true reason we celebrate Easter...the tomb was empty. It was a wonderful way to spend the day and a great reminder that this holiday is so much more than chocolate and eggs.
Meanwhile...back in "Rocket land"....

Weston gets his rocket ready to launch....

....up, up and away.........

Now the hard part..he has to go find it in the field.........

Got it!!

(12/20) My flowerbeds....

Definitely a work in progress...but I'm so happy to see colors again!! I "heart" spring!!
