(20/20) New Angles....

Doug told me to try to shoot from different angles rather than just "straight on" shots....here's what I came up with....

Does this picture make Shoni's nose look big????

(19/20) The Savannah Beaver.....

According to Weston, we have a beaver in Savannah. There is
evidence everywhere......

A beaver dam along the canal bank

A tree cut down by the beaver (who is amazingly accurate and neat in his cuttings)

We have yet to see this elusive beaver...but we're looking!!!

(17/20) Happy Mardi Gras

Weston asked..."Isn't there a country singer named that?" I thought for a minute and said "You mean Tim McGraw?" Weston's response...."Maybe they're long lost relatives" Hmmmm....maybe????
Tonight we celebrate with King Cake and Jambalaya....the kids both have beads and Doug may have strep throat....not the best way to par-tay but....that's how we roll.
Happy Mardi Gras!!!!!!!!!!!

(15/20) Our big catch...

In case anyone was wondering if we ever catch any "big" fish....here's a few from our latest afternoon of fishing. Our neighbor actually caught a pretty good sized catfish and it took the help of every kid in the neighborhood to get the hook out...I'm sure that fish will never be the same again.

(14/20) Science Fair

Weston did his experiment on which bread molds fastest...wheat, white or honey wheat. Sadly, with all the preservatives in breads today, we struggled to get any of these to mold. Finally, after getting them wet, wiping them with a q-tip after swabbing my baseboards (sad, I know) for dust, putting them in baggies in the dark...we were able to detect a small (tiny) amount of mold on the honey wheat.

Avery did hers on which brand of popcorn leaves the most kernels unpopped...Boy scout, Act II or Market Pantry. And the winner was..........Act II, leaving only 20 unpopped kernels. That's right, you heard it here first folks. Now, go buy some Act II....stay away from honey wheat bread...and have a great Friday.

(13/20) Valentine's Parties....

Wow...not so great pictures but the kids had a great time, so that's all that really matters. In Avery's class, a sweet mom tried to do a paper folding craft with the kiddos...they were so lost when she started with "Measure into your paper 5 1/2 inches....then from that spot measure out 2 3/4 inches...from there...." I really tried not to laugh at the lost looks on the kids faces. She finally decided to take them home and fold them herself.
Weston's class played a few games...he was so sad when he didn't win a candle for me in the "How many words can you make using the letters from VALENTINES PARTY game" ...the little sweetie. He cried and said "I really wanted to win that for you mom". As a mom, you know this was a much better gift than the candle could ever have been.
Both kiddos exchanged valentines (horses and sports..guess which one belonged to which kid), ate lots of sweets then came home and enjoyed a box of chocolates from me. Sugar overload...the perfect way to celebrate!!

(12/20) Fishing Part 2.....

If you look really close, you'll see a tiny fish under Weston's big ol' shoe.

Since we didn't have any fishing gloves, and neither Avery or I want to actually touch a fish, we used what we had...my red, beaded gloves made for me by Miss Debbie...thanks Miss Debbie and...I'm sorry they're a little fishy.

A boy from our "hood" helping Avery get the hook out of her fishes mouth....we always knew those boys were good for something!!

Both kids caught lots of fish...way more than I wanted to "de-hook". Bleegh.....they could seriously fish every day, but I really prefer Doug to be there so he can take the hooks out. They probably caught 20 or more fish in all...often catching one as soon as they threw their lines in. But, we had corn and I'm guessing the fish were hungry.

(11/20) Fishing.....

Avery loves to fish...and luckily the canal a block from our house has a great area to fish from. She gathers her pink pole, loads her hook with corn, and happily casts her rod to try and catch some fish. Did she get any on this beautiful February day....tune in tomorrow to find out.

(10/20) Avery Cantered....

Avery and Shoni.....

Avery cantered for the first time yesterday....she was excited and nervous to try but once she did....she didn't want to stop. Miss Heather told her cantering on Shoni was like riding a unicorn through the clouds...and it was. After trying it once, she cantered and cantered until Miss Heather had to give poor Shoni a break. Avery was so proud of herself...and she should be. It's not easy to face something head on that you are nervous about. But she did it...and I am so very proud of her!! Now....we just need to work on keeping that helmet up so she can see where she's going!!

(9/20) Happy Valentine's Day....

Avery is with her BFF Kam....Weston is with Grandma and Papa....Doug and I had a bottle of wine, 5 movies, a fire in the fireplace, caramel cheesecake and almost $100 worth of sushi/california rolls....life simply could not be any better!!! Happy Valentine's Day!!!

(8/20) For Valentine's Day....

I found this quote over at Heather's blog (www.faithfulfroggers.blogspot.com) and loved it...as I do all of the quotes and Bible verses she posts.....may this be me!!

"Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor... Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting."
-Mother Theresa

(7/20) Getting ready for Valentine's Day...

Today are class Valentine's Party, so yesterday the kids and I baked and decorated mini-cupcakes. For them, decorating involves much licking and tasting, as well as making a big mess. For me, decorating involves many warnings about licking and tasting as well as warnings about making a big mess....but all in all...we have a great time and the results...Yum, Yum if I do say so myself.

(6/20) View of the Savannah Canals....

This is the canal around the corner from our house. Not only is it the home of Mr. Quackers, but it's really pretty and I love to practice my photography skills here.
